The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) is pleased to announce the formal inauguration of LaBL 2.0, a strategic evolution of its foundational energy initiative. Officially unveiled during the prestigious ‘Dinner of Hope’ at the World Sustainable Development Summit 2026, this transition marks a definitive milestone in the organization’s commitment to sustainable progress. The official launch of the program’s logo and digital platform was led by Dr JK Jethani, Scientist F, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), in the presence of TERI’s senior leadership, including Director General Dr Vibha Dhawan, Senior Director Dr Dipankar Saharia, and Associate Director Dr Amit Kumar Thakur.
Building upon the legacy of the Lighting a Billion Lives campaign, LaBL 2.0 represents a sophisticated paradigm shift in the deployment of decentralized renewable energy. Rather than focusing solely on basic illumination, the reimagined framework positions clean energy as a primary driver for productive use, seeking to catalyze green livelihoods and foster robust, women-led entrepreneurship. This approach ensures that energy access is not an end in itself but a foundation for systemic socioeconomic resilience and the strengthening of local value chains.
By developing scalable and finance-ready models, LaBL 2.0 aligns directly with India’s ambitious Net-Zero targets and the broader 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The initiative aims to provide a measurable roadmap for climate action, demonstrating how integrated renewable solutions can bridge the gap between environmental stewardship and economic growth. Through this refined strategy, TERI continues to lead the discourse on how decentralized systems can serve as the cornerstone of an equitable and sustainable global future.
